Otaki MP Nathan Guy has welcomed the National Party's policy to extend the Road of National Significance highway from Levin to Sanson.
"This is great news and will be a massive economic boost to the Horowhenua District and the wider region," says Mr Guy.
"Being designated a Road of National Significance means this road gets higher priority from NZTA and the consenting process is sped up, on average taking just nine months.
"This investment will be worth hundreds of millions of dollars and a major boost to local businesses, just as the Kapiti expressway proved and the $70 million new Manawatu River bridge is creating at Foxton.
"In the future these four-lane expressways will allow for speed limits of 110km per hour, providing much quicker and safer journeys. It will mean Horowhenua is the gateway to the Wellington region and better connected than ever before.
"I will support the local community as we engage with NZTA on route options around Levin later this year.
"We've already seen the amazing progress with the Kapiti expressway fast-tracked by the National Government in 2009 and now complete, and Transmission Gully scheduled for completion by 2020.
"We also have the $330 million Otaki to Peka Peka expressway underway, including a cycleway and full interchange at Peka Peka.
"I'm also delighted to see the Manawatu Gorge has been given RONS status as long term solutions are needed for this important strategic route.
“This is part of a $10.5 billion investment into 10 major roading projects across New Zealand.
"National's strong support for new roads is in contrast to Labour and the Greens who staunchly opposed the Kapiti expressway. All of these roading improvements will be at severe risk if there is a change of Government."
