The Government’s refusal to commit to the vital next stage of the expressway from Otaki to around Levin is disappointing and a setback to the progress that was being made, MP for Otaki Nathan Guy says.
“I questioned Minister of Transport Phil Twyford in the house today on whether the Coalition Government will go ahead with National’s plan to build the expressway from Otaki to around Levin and he refused to provide that commitment.
“Traffic is at a standstill along the main street in peak times and the expressway would reduce congestion, improve safety and boost economic growth.
“NZTA have announced that consultation on the project will begin in the new year, but it would all be for nothing if the Government can’t stump up and fund the project.
“This indecisive approach from Government proves it doesn’t care about Horowhenua roading improvements and would rather spend money on Auckland rail instead,” Mr Guy says.
