Horowhenua residents will breathe a sigh of relief that consultation will begin on expressway route options from Otaki to around Levin in February next year, says MP for Otaki Nathan Guy.
“There's been uncertainty surrounding route options for years and I'm pleased the Government has decided to progress to the next stage”.
“Many residents I've spoken to just want route certainty, so they can get on with their lives”.
“Levin’s main street is already grid locked at peak times and this will only get worse without removing highway traffic from the centre of town”.
“Horowhenua is finally enjoying strong economic growth that has been largely generated by National building the Kapiti Expressway that continues to open up business opportunities”
“Transport Minister Phil Twyford must now commit to funding the Otaki - Levin section. Otherwise the talkfest in February is meaningless”.
“I am looking forward to being briefed by NZTA officials in the new year on route options they intend to consult on”.
“Many residents already have strong views on East and West options around Levin and will want to ensure their voices are heard” says Nathan Guy.
